I am writing to introduce myself, my name is Diane, I am the Supporter of Carers for Victoria and the first point of contact for all people interested in the Foster Care program. Thank you for your interest in becoming a carer with Life Without Barriers. Each year thousands of children come into the care of organizations like Life Without Barriers. Some have been abused, abandoned or their birth family is no longer able to look after them. We are looking for loving families, couples and individuals who are willing to open their heart and home to people in need.

You can make an amazing difference when you become a carer. You help the child or young person in your care to grow, develop and explore life opportunities that they may never have felt available to them. You can help them build their lives - to find stability and to gain hope and determination for a brighter future. As a carer, the children who come into your home will present both challenges and opportunities. The challenge is caring for someone who has begun his or her life under difficult circumstances and may be insecure, frightened and sometimes angry. The opportunity is the love, understanding and patience they receive from you and the huge difference this can make in their life, as well as yours.

Everyone, regardless of age, race, or ability, has the right to a loving and secure home. It is about believing and investing in the future and your community. We hope you will consider making that investment. To assist you to enhance a child’s quality of life, we offer excellent training, 24 hour support and a substantial tax free weekly payment.
You need to be able to provide a nurturing safe home environment. In becoming a carer you undertake a full carer assessment process and engage in ongoing learning and development activities. You must be able to pass a WWC, Police check and have a spare bedroom for the child to use on their own.
