Ever fancied teaching English in Nepal but really don’t want to go into the rural areas where life is very basic. If you are interested in teaching in the city of Kathmandu where in your spare time you can explore this ancient city then this is the placement for you. The Nepali school system is two tiered with government and private available. With EHN policy of working with the poorer members of the community we are supporting this small school for around 250 children in the heart of Thamel. Many of the children`s parents work in the many shops, hotels and restaurants in the area (and a number of the children as well in their spare time) and send their children to this school in hope of a better future for them.

Description of duties at placement- Help in the classrooms with the Nepali teachers or even make your own lesson plans for the children and try them out. The main aim here is interaction with the students and the practicing of English as often as possible. As English is so important in this area you will find all students are very happy to engage you in conversation so you will be busy most of the time. Please feel free to read stories to the younger children and help in all ways. One thing we encourage is volunteers bringing their own ideas to the placements and all new ideas are always welcome.

Placement Location- The school is situated right in the heart of Thamel (the tourist area of Kathmandu) in a temple grounds on a back street. Its a place where you can experience teaching children who have a keen interest in learning as well as the highlights of a big city. Just 200 meters from the school gate you are right in the centre of shops, restaurants and hotels so civilization isn’t far away.

Accommodation- Will be provided by the local families near to the school, each one carefully selected so at least one member of the family speaks good English in order that you can communicate effectively. Also you will find that the local families in the home stay programme have been chosen because they also have good standing in the community and can introduce you to the traditional Nepalese life.

$130 admin charge to cover, admin, airport pickup, hotels stay, taxis, food sightseeing, transfers to and from placement.

The program fee covers 

1.Transport to and from the placement.

2.Meal and accommodation (Nepali standard) with host family during placement.

3.Accommodation and main meals during placement. 

4.Sight seeing in Kathmandu.

The fee does not cover:

1. Insurance (medical, travel, personal belongings)
2. Flight or land transportation from your country to Nepal. 

3. Personal expenses (i.e. gift items, food in between meals, water) 

4. Trekking, rafting, other adventure activities.
5. Visa costs.
