A Thing of Beauty: How to Find the Best Antique and Jewellery

Why are there so many people falling in love with antiques and jewelry at the same time? It seems like there is something ethereal about these items that attracts people, especially women. But perhaps we can fairly say that a thing of beauty would fall for something that is enticing and pleasing to the eye that makes women go for these items. There are a lot of antique and jewellery stores around but you might try searching online for antiques and jewellery classified ads. Doing so will allow you to check more items without spending a lot of time driving around the city and walking in and out of malls and other shops.

Of course, we all want to have the best deals around. But keeping in mind what you want to buy, for this instance, antiques and jewellery, you might want to prepare spending more for an item. So remember the golden rule when buying one: do your research and check for the market value of the product you want to bring home.

You may find two sellers selling antique kitchen cabinets but surely, the prices would be different. This is where research comes in. Antique items will increase in value but never would the increase be the same. So this means that the oak cabinet and the Chinese bamboo cabinet will have different prices.

If you are an antique lover, you might want to buy something that is unusual, odd, rare and one-of-a-kind. If not, there is no reason for you to spend thousands of dollars for one item. You would not want to see something similar or exactly like it unless you want to make your antique hunting worthless. If you have finally found a piece to buy, another thing you wish to consider is the overall look of the item. If it looks like an ordinary item of today, better not buy it. Remember that you are looking for something unique, something that would instantly catch the eye of a visitor when he sets into your house.

Lastly, consider the reason why you want to buy an antique. If you are buying one to be used at home, check whether the material is still durable enough for it to function properly. A vintage granny clock, for example, should be working just fine unless you only want it to be a piece of decoration and not a time telling device.

There are antiques that are meant to serve as a collection and display and there are those that are purchased for functionality. If you have purchased a 1950s china ware, you may not want to use them as dining utensils. These items are so delicate that even if they are in very good condition, the probability of the plates being broken into pieces is so big that you might not want to risk your money.

On the other hand, if you love glitzy jewelry, you might want to consider your budget first. If you can afford to spend more on one jewelry, you can go for luxury ones. Set your budget to avoid overspending. When you are buying a piece of jewelry, it is still best to be more practical. Will you be able to use it during a lot of occasions? Is it wearable at work? Does it reflect your personality? Ask similar questions and you will be able to find the perfect glittery adornment you are looking for.

When you are on a budget, it is a good thing to look for silver jewellery. These items exude elegance as the gold counterparts without having to pay more. But be careful when buying one to be able to avoid nickel silver and German silver ones which are not actually made of silver.

Gold is still the most sought after when it comes to jewellery. Most people go for the 18k gold which is made of 75% gold. This is because it is rather more durable than the 24k pure gold jewellery. Other cheaper options are the 14K with 58% gold, and 10k with 42% gold.

Here’s another piece of advice. If you have already found that classified ad post online, transact in person, as much as possible. This is because you are dealing with something expensive, thus you might want to carefully check the items. Lastly, ask for discounts. Most sellers would offer discount if you pay them in cash rather than check or credit card.
